Our mission is to protect the billions of Android devices out there. This report provides transparency into our efforts to reduce Potentially Harmful Application (PHA) rates on devices and in Google Play.
With Android, protection is thoughtfully built into everything you do. Like downloading apps, browsing the web and choosing to share data. If anything seems off, like a bad app or a harmful link, we'll alert you and give you tips on what to do next. And our powerful internal security guards your device and data. So that you stay protected, even when you’re not using your phone. All devices with Google Play have a set of endpoint and mobile threat prevention services that protect against common threats. In 2017, these protections evolved to form Google Play Protect, which provides a visible home for Google’s comprehensive security protections for Android. This report quantifies and explains the impact of those protections on detecting and removing potentially harmful applications (PHAs). The Android ecosystem security security transparency report covers both Android device safety as well as Play Store safety.
Transparency is key to our philosophy. From our open source platform to keeping users informed, we share knowledge across our community.
